local mission
When we think of the term "mission" we usually think of all the efforts to live out and proclaim the gospel internationally. While this is a huge part of the mission of Christ's kingdom, we cannot forget the local task to put the love and hope of Christ on display through our ongoing relationships in our own city. The BSM is teaming up with the Ethos (make this a link to www.ethosdallas.org) and has committed to four local, ongoing missional efforts:
1. MENTORING: Kid's Hope USA
Do you desire to spend one hour per week mentoring a student at Dan D. Rogers Elementary school? This is a great way to invest in a life at a critical time, sharing the love of Christ in an ongoing relationship. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Brad Schwall, our director of community connections.2. APARTMENT OUTREACH: Apartment Life
Do you desire to live a missional lifestyle while getting a free apartment for planning activities and building relationships? One of the least reached people groups in the city of Dallas are apartment-dwellers. We have partnered with this non-profit organization to provide CARES TEAMS for apartment communities throught the DFW area as well as provide volunteer support for this crucial apartment ministry. If you are interested in becoming a CARES TEAM contact our office or go to www.caresteam.org and fill out a "quick app" to get the process started.
3. HOMELESS RELIEF: Cornerstone Church
Jesus so closely identifies himself with those who are impoverished when he says in Matthew 25:40 that whenever we give food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, clothes for the naked or company for the sick or imprisoned we do it to him. Cornerstone Church, led by pastor Chris Simmons, is a dynamic, ministry-minded church located in the South Dallas/Fair Park area near downtown. We partner with this church to serve the homeless community in our city in various ways.4. URBAN RENEWAL: H.I.S. Bridgebuilders
God cares a great deal about cities and H.I.S. Bridgebuilders is an organization that provides many services that not only contribute to the common good of those struggling to get on their feet but also provides an incredible opportunity to connect people to God and others through strategic relationships.
